Mary Louise Carter

Ruston, Louisiana 

Mary Louise Carter was born in California and has been a potter for over thirty years. She earned her BFA degree from Kansas City Art Institute (MO) and received her MFA from the New York State College at Alfred University. From 1993 to 1997 Carter served as the resident potter at the Vermont State Craft Center in Middlebury, Vermont. She taught ceramics at Penn State (PA) and currently teaches at Louisiana Tech University, where she holds the Lyles Endowed Professorship in Ceramics. Her refined, porcelain pots transform and stack to reveal intricate detailing.
