ARTIST SPOTLIGHT 〰️
Meet Carolyn Mayo!
Carolyn has always loved pottery, collecting pieces over the years and attending frequent pottery sales. In 2018, she finally had time to pursue it for herself, and began taking classes once a week in New Orleans, where she lived at the time. She quickly became obsessed, and decided to join an open studio as well, allowing her extra time to work on her skills whenever she wanted.
In 2019 she moved to Fairhope, Alabama, where she became a studio member of The Kiln Studio & Gallery. She has since been featured at art shows at the Eastern Shore Art Center, and will be a part of the upcoming show “Fairhope Signature Artists: Coming Together”, opening September 5 - October 31. Eleven total artists will have work on display, with a wide range of sculpture, assemblage, painting, and pottery pieces. Carolyn was invited to become a part of this featured group of artists by ESAC teacher and the group’s founder, Julie Snydell. The intent was to create a network of artists who could meet, share resources, and participate in non-competitive feedback on their work. Their goal is to support and make each other better as artists. As a group, they frequently take turns in hosting different projects in their own skill set, allowing the artists to break out of their comfort zone and explore different art mediums. They also take occasional field trips to different art museums to learn from other artists and spend time together.
Carolyn is a special part of our studio family, and looking at her work, you would never know she hasn’t been an artist all her life! You can shop her pieces in our gallery and bring a piece of her into your home.
